Heartland Educational Consortium (HEC) is excited to announce the creation of the Workforce Advisory Council (WAC) — an initiative designed to bring together education, business, and community leaders to help shape the future of the region’s workforce.
Empowering Local Workforce Development
The WAC will serve as a collaborative hub for identifying workforce needs, aligning educational programs with regional employment opportunities, and ensuring that students graduate prepared for success in high-demand careers. Through this partnership, members will provide valuable input on industry trends, skill requirements, and emerging opportunities across sectors.
“By connecting schools and businesses, we can better equip our students with the skills, experiences, and confidence they need to thrive in today’s workforce,” said Whitney McGee, HEC’s Director of Instructional Services. “The council is about more than workforce readiness—it’s about economic growth, innovation, and community collaboration.”
Council Goals
The Workforce Advisory Council aims to:
Provide input on local workforce needs
Advise on educational programs and career pathways
Build partnerships between schools and businesses
Support students through internships, mentorships, and job opportunities
Help shape regional economic growth
These goals align directly with HEC’s mission to foster strong partnerships that enhance educational outcomes and strengthen the regional economy.
Who Can Join
HEC invites business and industry leaders, workforce development professionals, community and civic leaders, and anyone passionate about preparing students for success to participate in the council. Members will have the opportunity to influence educational programming, share insight into industry needs, and invest in the future workforce of the Heartland region.
