The Heartland Educational Consortium recently held our latest Assistant Principal Forum. Our assistant principals came together to share best practices, collaborate on challenges, and discuss new strategies for effective leadership. We're grateful for the dedication and passion our assistant principals bring to their roles everyday.

Science teachers from the Heartland Educational Consortium spent an incredible day collaborating and gaining hands-on experience. They engaged in an interactive workshop and experimented with new resources to bring back memories of their classrooms. Our teachers are always driving to make science education more engaging and impactful for their students.

Yesterday, Highlands County school counselors, social workers, and licensed mental health professionals attended our Title IX, Part A McKinney-Vento training. During this training, they learned how to properly identify students experiencing homelessness, eliminate barriers to enrollment, as well as resouces and supports available to these students. Reaching the needs of homeless students is a critical aspect of ensuring their well-being and academic success. Homeless students face unique challenges that can significantly impact their ability to learn and thrive in school. At HEC, we take pride in helping students overcome adversity, build resilience, and achieve academic success. A heartfelt shout out to all the dedicated faculty and staff who go above and beyond to support and uplift our students.

We had a great turnout of local businesses from the Heartland at our annual CLNA Regional Stakeholder Meeting that was held yesterday! There were great discussions and ideas shared to help our students moving forward.

HEC is thrilled to share the exciting highlights from our recent Communities of Practice. We engaged in a hands-on and productive math struggle activity. Each participant was tasked with constructing a Pringle Ringle using only Pringle chips. This seemingly simple task required creative problem solving.

Our math content specialist, Stacey Hinson, had the pleasure of working with the math department at Bowling Green Elementary last week. We spent our time together investigating the importance of using manipulatives in moving students through the concrete, representational, to abstract process. Using manipulatives helps students' understanding and engagement with mathematical concepts.

Teachers at Country Oaks and Upthegrove Elementary spent time during their PLC's exploring a variety of no/to low cost manipulatives. Allowing students to create their own meaning from manipulatives they select provides opportunities for deeper understanding of math concepts.

It was a great evening with the families of Westside Elementary at their New World Reading Literacy Event!
