Happy December 1st! As you can see, we are busy at work! Clover and Cobalt have joined us from the North Pole to spread holiday cheer! Be on the lookout for these two to follow us in our travels throughout our districts. #countdowntochristmas


Stacey Hinson, Math Specialist, and Candis Dean, Literacy Specialist have had two wonderful Wednesdays in November at West Elementary working with teachers. Professional Learning topics included math standards based centers, Concrete-Representational-Abstract model, incorporating co-created anchor charts, and vocabulary instruction.











It was a terrific Tuesday evening at Everglades Elementary School for our second Community Literacy Event. A huge thank you to the families that joined us for dinner and a literacy activity. Each student also received the book, "Long Shot" to take home.

Our first New Worlds Reading Community Literacy Event was a huge success at Zolfo Springs Elementary with first and second grade students and their families!
Everyone enjoyed dinner and a literacy activity around the book, "My Most Favorite Book in the Whole Wide World" by Malcolm Mitchell. Each student in VPK- fifth grade that attended got to take a book home with them as well.

The 2023 Heartland Honor Choir performed last night at South Florida State College. 160 students that were from four of our member districts (DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, and Highlands) participated. There was a full day of learning and networking with Bill and Sabra Hatley, clinicians from Polk County.

Last Wednesday was a wonderful day for professional learning in DeSoto County with Literacy Specialist, Candis Dean. Together 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade teachers worked to "Unlock the World of Figurative Language." While 6th, 7th, & 8th grade teachers delved into "Finding the Gems of Rhetoric."









On October 30, 2023, HEC will be hosting our 5th Annual Heartland Honor Choir event in which talented singers from across the Heartland region come together for a night performance at the Alan Jay Wildstein Auditorium at South Florida State College.
This concert is open to the public, with doors opening at 6:30 and the performance starting at 7:00pm.
The Heartland Honor Choir is a wonderful opportunity for high school singers to showcase their talents, make new friends, and learn from experienced musicians.


It was a wonderful time spent at Zolfo Springs Elementary school yesterday. Math content specialist, Stacey Hinson, worked with pre-k to 5th grade teachers as we dove into MTRs and the B1G-M.






On October 4th, HEC hosted our first Assistant Principal Forum for the 2023-2024 school year. We had representatives from all 6 school districts.







HEC's Aspiring Leaders Academy Cohort 2 had a great day of learning on the Florida Educational Leadership standards of student achievement, continuous improvement, and learning environment.
